“Iron
sharpens iron, so one man
sharpens another”
~ Proverbs 27:17
At
Crossway Church, we value the spiritual growth of every man, woman,
and child in
the body. But we also recognize the unique and important place
of spiritual leadership that men are called to in the Scriptures.
We want to create an environment that God can use to make men into
His disciples. God’s disciples are men…
• Who are called to walk with Jesus Christ
• Who
are equipped to live like Christ
• Who
are sent to work for Christ
We realize that each man is in a little bit of a different spiritual
place, but we want to help equip each man to grow and mature spiritually…to
create an all-inclusive ministry that disciples men right where
they are at.
Every Thursday morning at 5:00am, we gather at the King Soopers
in Greeley on the corner of 10th Street and 71st Avenue in the “Meeting
Room” as a group of men. We go through a particular book together
and we discuss topics that are relevant to men…and we encourage
one another and hold each other accountable.
Going
Into Battle Together…
Leaving No Man Behind
Patrick
Morley got it right in his book “No Man Left Behind” when
he said that there are parallels between rocket science and being
a man:
Gravity – most
men shoulder the burden of working hard at their jobs, resisting
the temptations of a world
that wants to
drag them down, supporting a family financially, and trying to
be a good
husband and father.
Velocity – some men go like gangbusters, but others have a
hard time being enthusiastic about God…even those who have
been in church for a long time.
Angles
of Ascent – sometimes it seems like we’re steadily
moving forward, but other times it feels like we’re careening
back and forth in our spiritual journey.
Drag – Jobs, careers, relationships, temptations, and hobbies…all
of these things are hard to navigate through, and it seems like
they can hold us back from growing in our faith.
The Bible compares living for Christ
and growing in our faith to being in battle…that’s why the Apostle Paul told the
Ephesians to “put on the full armor of God.”
But
the fact is, no one man can do this by himself…men need
to go to battle together. And when they do, they should have each
others’ backs…no man should be left behind.
